New Viking

I just did a re-design of one of my old characters. If you scroll down this page you can see one of my first posts (ok..my 6th..) was a Viking Character. I'm working on my portfolio and as I was placing this guy in I decided to tweak him a tad. Let me know what you think, and thanks as always for all the comments! Also, with all the AMAZING artists who frequent my blog..I would really like to absorb some knowledge from you guys. I would really appreciate any constructive criticism you could give me. Lets start with this drawing: Tell me what to improve! Thanks! See ya in two months.

First off it is a great drawing Ben, very solid construction and nice design. There are two things I have learned from having my stuff critiqued that were really helpful to think about when examining my own designs. If you want to make the character even stronger try to vary the size and shapes in the body as much as possible. Second thing is to avoid the ladder in the spacing of the facial features. I get told this every time I show my stuff to some great artist so I will pass it on.

Hey!

Awesome pic! The expression and pose are priceless. I'm also diggin' the textures in his costume.

That is also the smoothest leggéd viking I've ever seen...not that I've seen too many vikings...love the pic.

I really like this guy! I'll second the comment about varying the shape sizes and proportions a little more. I also think streamlining some of the lines so you get some nice contrast of straights and curves would help also.

I can agree with some of the above crits but it's still looking really good. What's working, in my opinion is wear you chose to add details and where you didn't. Ex: His Torso isn't heavily detailed but some items, in contrast, are. Good personality in your, pose too!

Great drawing...I have enjoyed looking at your work. I showed this to me 8 year old son and all he wants to do is draw it over and over. He is my artist.

That has to be good right? Keep it up!

Terrific viking! I like the bear claw cape, maybe you could play that up a bit more? Really like his face.
